New Student Special

For many people, taking the first step towards learning to dance can be very tough. At best, you're thinking that it'll be fun, but you'll mess up a bunch. At worst, you're looking at the first lesson as a very intimidating, stressful thing. You're afraid of being embarrassed, and having it clearly pointed out to you that you really just can't dance. I understand because I went through the same experience when I first started.

The New Student Special is designed for those people. It's the best way to jump start your dancing as quickly and as painlessly as possible. It is taught in a low-pressure, non-intimidating environment by a teacher who specializes in working with people with "two-left feet". After completing the New Student Special, you'll:

  • Know how to not look awkward on the dance floor.
  • Know how NOT to step on your partner's feet.
  • Feel comfortable - you'll be much less nervous or intimidated about taking lessons.
  • Be able to do basic steps in 2-4 Dances to both Slow and Fast Music or,
  • If you're preparing for a wedding, be able to dance gracefully to your song.

What's Included

  • 40-minute Private Lesson (there may be other students in the space, but you will have your own teacher)
  • 2 Group Classes
  • 2 Practice Sessions

After registering, you can schedule all of your classes online, including the group and practice sessions.

We highly recommend that you schedule and attend your private lesson before attending any group classes or practice sessions. There may be other students sharing the space and the music - as there are at all dance studios - but you will have your own instructor. We'll cover the basics and if you're preparing for a Wedding or Special Event, bring your song and a video camera and we'll get your first dance choreographed.

The group classes are an opportunity to develop stronger "muscle memory", making the steps second nature vs. having to think about it. If you're not sure which classes to attend, your teacher can recommend some on your private lesson.

The practice sessions allow you to practice your steps independently as you share the dance floor with other people. Teachers are, of course, on hand to dance to answer questions, provide guidance, and dance with people who don't have partners. These sessions are really fun and are key in developing confidence.

Group Classes and Practice Sessions must be used within 6 months of taking your Private Lesson

Why Choose
Ballroom Philadelphia?

We're not saying we're the best studio ever, but we think we are pretty damn good. We're a great choice for people who want to learn to dance well, and want to have fun doing it.

  • Lessons are designed to be low-pressure, high-fun, and intimidation-free, so that non-dancers will pick up as quickly and as easily as possible.
  • Learn up to 10 different dances: Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, ChaCha, Rumba, Swing, Mambo, Hustle, Samba, and Viennese Waltz.
  • Vuthy and Brandi have been teaching since 2002 at private studios, Indiana University, and the University of Pennsylvania. They have competed professionally in International Style Latin. Brandi is a local contemporary dancer/choreographer and both dance professionally for the world-class Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers. Not only do they make lessons easy, but you will learn to dance the "right" way.
  • We're doing something right - we have a 5-star average on Yelp, 100% positive feedback Living Social and 97% Approval Rate on Groupon. Check out our reviews.
